Turnip Green Soup
Description
This tasty turnip green soup with garlicky kielbasa, delicate great northern beans, and a blend of savory seasonings begs to be served with cornbread.
Ingredients

1 teaspoon vegetable oil

1 pound kielbasa sausage, cut into 1 inch pieces

1 medium onion, chopped
•
5 cups chicken broth
•
2 (27 ounce) cans turnip greens, drained
•
2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans great northern beans, rinsed and drained
•
1 package vegetable soup mix (such as Knorr's®)
•
1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco®)
•
1 teaspoon garlic powder
•
1 pinch Creole seasoning (such as Tony Chachere's®), or to taste
•
salt and ground black pepper to taste
Directions

Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add kielbasa and onion; cook and stir until kielbasa is browned and onion is translucent, 5 to 7 minutes. Remove to a plate.

Add broth, turnip greens, beans, soup mix, hot pepper sauce, garlic powder, Creole seasoning, salt, and pepper to the saucepan; bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

Return kielbasa and onion mixture to the saucepan. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 2 hours.
