Sauteed Cabbage and Apples

Description

Whether served at a dinner party or on a busy weeknight, this quick and easy sauteed red cabbage side dish with apples, onions, and fennel seeds is sure to impress.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons salted butter
1 small head red cabbage, cored and thinly sliced
1 medium Granny Smith apple - peeled, cored, and sliced
1/2 small sweet onion, cut into thin wedges
1 teaspoon fennel seeds, crushed
kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
1/4 cup red wine
1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

Directions

1 Melt butter in a large saute pan over medium heat. Add cabbage, apple, onion, fennel seeds, salt, and pepper. Saute until the cabbage softens and wilts, about 20 minutes.
2 Pour red wine into the pan and bring to a boil while scraping the browned bits of food off the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon. Stir in vinegar.
