Description

Layer the dry ingredients for classic chocolate chip cookies in a jar for a thoughtful homemade gift that’s easy to assemble and fun to share.

Ingredients

1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda

Directions

1 Whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda. Layer the flour mixture, brown sugar, white sugar, and chocolate chips in a clean 1-quart wide-mouth jar, pressing down each layer firmly to fit.
2 Cover the jar with the lid. If desired, place a 9-inch circle of fabric over the lid and secure with a rubber band. Tie a ribbon or raffia bow around the jar.
3 Enclose a card with the following mixing and baking directions: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or lightly grease them. Beat 1 cup unsalted butter or margarine in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in 1 egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Stir in the cookie mix until combined. Drop teaspoonfuls of dough about 2 inches apart onto the prepared baking sheets. Bake until the edges are lightly browned, 8 to 10 minutes. Cool on the baking sheets for 2 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
