Ingredients

8 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup white sugar, or more to taste
2 tablespoons baking powder
2 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/4 cups buttermilk
1 cup butter, softened
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups raisins

Directions

1 Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2 Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a bowl. Add buttermilk, butter, and eggs. Knead together with your hands or use an electric mixer; add raisins. Split dough in half and form into 2 loaves. Place on the prepared baking sheet.
3 Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center of each loaf comes out clean, about 45 minutes.
