Ingredients

2 quarts water
1 ham hock
1 (10 ounce) linguica sausage, sliced
1 onion, minced
4 potatoes, peeled and cubed
2 celery rib, chopped
2 carrots, chopped
1 (15 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 clove garlic, minced
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans
1/2 head cabbage, thinly sliced

Directions

1 Place water, ham hock, linguiça, and onion in a Dutch oven over high heat; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 1 hour.
2 Remove meat from ham hock, chop, and return to soup. Stir in potatoes, celery, carrots, stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and garlic. Cover; simmer for 1 ½ hours, stirring occasionally.
3 Stir in kidney beans and cabbage; cook until cabbage has softened, about 10 minutes.
