South Texas Carne Guisada
Description
This carne guisada is simmered on the stove with cubed sirloin steak, fresh tomatoes, bell pepper, onion, garlic, and cumin in a rich, spicy gravy.
Ingredients

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

2 pounds beef sirloin, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
•
4 large tomatoes, chopped
•
1 large onion, chopped
•
1 large red bell pepper, chopped
•
1/3 cup water
•
2 tablespoons ground cumin
•
5 cloves garlic, minced
•
1 tablespoon garlic powder
•
1 teaspoon dried, crushed Mexican oregano
•
1 teaspoon salt
•
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
•
1/2 teaspoon paprika

Gather the ingredients.

Heat oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Cook beef in hot oil, stirring occasionally, until brown on all sides, about 10 minutes. Reduce heat to medium.

Add tomatoes, onion, red bell pepper, water, cumin, garlic, garlic powder, oregano, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
